What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that affects 100 million people worldwide. Anyone can get psoriasis because the disease affects women and men equally, regardless of age, although most people develop it between the ages of 15 and 30. In Poland, approximately 800,000 people suffer from psoriasis. people.

Psoriasis is a skin disease characterized by faster division of epidermis cells and constant exfoliation. The process of epidermal proliferation is four times faster than in skin not affected by psoriasis. Acceleration of this process results in the formation of pink or red-brown papular lesions on the skin covered with silvery scales.

Psoriasis is NOT an infectious disease, so there is no fear of contact with a person suffering from psoriasis. However, those who suffer from this disease have quite a problem, because psoriasis is a virtually incurable disease, and the only salvation for them are various types of therapies that help keep their skin in proper condition. This disease is a problem for many people and often causes shame and even depression. Let us remember not to be discouraged when contacting a person suffering from it and to treat the disease with a smile, as a person suffering from psoriasis is not suffering from any infection, it is simply an abnormal regeneration of skin cells, which can affect anyone, and the causes of which no one has yet fully determined. he didn't recognize it.

Generally, lesions appear on the elbows, knees, around the sacrum and buttocks, on the nails and, unfortunately, also on the scalp.
Scalp psoriasis manifests itself with psoriatic, focal or confluent papular lesions covered with thick and dense layers of scales. If there is a large accumulation of scales, cracks may be formed, which may become infected. Sometimes psoriatic lesions may spread to the smooth skin of the forehead, neck and around the ears.

Why should psoriasis be treated by a trichologist?

Scalp psoriasis can occur with varying degrees of severity, but the most important thing is not to let it get the better of you, do not allow yourself to neglect it and find the right therapy to keep your scalp in good condition. Choosing such a therapy is not easy, because everyone struggling with this disease responds better or worse to various therapeutic forms, hence the selection of "the one" often takes years. Unfortunately, some of them are not only not effective for everyone, but also have many side effects. So if you still don't have a problem and your therapy is not effective, keep looking!

It is worth knowing that the care of the scalp affected by psoriasis is different from that used on other parts of the body.
By following the principles of proper treatment of your body and proper care of your scalp, you can significantly improve and maintain its healthy appearance for a long time. Please remember to always try the least aggressive methods possible, those that will allow us to extend the periods of psoriasis remission without the risk of side effects.

Psoriasis, as I mentioned, is not curable, although it can be effectively controlled. It requires the use of various therapies. It is worth making sure that they are natural and safe, even with long-term use.

And as trichologists, we look for such therapies for people suffering from scalp psoriasis. It is important for us to free these people from returning to steroid therapy for many years and to find effective, safe, natural and healthy methods for their scalp.

The question "Is natural therapy possible without the use of steroids?" Unfortunately, not for everyone :( A certain group of patients must nevertheless be managed in accordance with pharmacological treatment; natural procedures are then included as complementary therapy to improve the quality of the scalp and support pharmacological treatment.

For people suffering from psoriasis, autumn and winter are a more difficult time of the year, because as we know, the sun improves the condition of psoriatic skin, with some exceptions, as always. For people whose hair length limits access to solar radiation, the whole year is unfortunately unfavorable. Good luck, and remember you can always count on us!
